Paulshof Play

community - renovation

Our Paulshof community play area project sees the conversion of an empty floor in an inner-city residential building into a fun-filled play space. On a tight budget for a large space, we focused on making the most impact.

By integrating and using colour we were able to define different spaces. By opening up an old fire escape we were able to bring in natural light, illuminating and ventilating the space.

Titled A Network of Play: Community Upliftment through Playspace Networks in Johannesburg. Our solution looks at the gap that the city leaves – building onto the existing, but lacking, play spaces, inside buildings and public parks. This solution will quickly and rapidly build up a base for future play spaces to connect to.

Children of the inner city are in need of a safe, comprehensive and discoverable network of play spaces that offer a place of solace and play in every corner of the city. The aim of the Network of PLAY is to make Johannesburg CBD safe and discoverable for children of any age.
